The Truth About Aging

I just watched a powerful video from Freyia North of Norway on YouTube. Her words are always inspiring but this video really moved me. Here are a few quotes from it:

Aging is not about losing power, it’s about relocating it. In old coastal communities elders were not asked to lift the heaviest nets. They were asked where to cast them.—Freyia, North in Norway

Youth is full of future. Midlife is full of of memory. Memory can feel heavy. Regrets surface. Roads not taken glow brighter. Bodies remind you of a time. But memory is also compost. In the North when something died it was not discarded carelessly. Even bones had purpose. Tools were shaped from them. Meaning was carved from what remained. Aging is bone work. You begin carving meaning from what has already happened, and that can be confronting because it asks “What do I still want to build with the time I have left?” not in panic, but in clarity.—Freyia, North in Norway

You are not meant to feel the same forever. Culture sells sameness as success. The North teaches adaptation as wisdom. An elder once told me that aging is when the marrow begins to speak louder than the skin. There is power in that shift, deep power.—Freyia, North in Norway
