So my state, North Carolina, has the privilege of being on the path of totality during the solar eclipse on August 21st. Needless to say, I have cleared my calendar and have given myself over to the day to see what magic energies can be harnessed.
My first purchase was Dark Sun Oil, made by the good folks at Asheville Raven and Crone. This oil is a combination of Dark Moon and Full Sun oil, which pretty much sums up the energy of this day. I plan on charging it during the eclipse.
The way I see it, the Eclipse represents energy that can be used for transformation and change. The Dark Moon aspect of the eclipse is the power of the Goddess. It speaks of new beginnings, hidden wisdom, intuitive whisperings in our soul, etc. The Tarot Card of the High Priestess comes to mind when I think of the energy of the Dark Moon. It’s the opportunity for us to commune deeply with the Divine Feminine and listen to what she has to tell us. Perhaps we will be challenged to undertake a new project or spiritual practice. Perhaps we will have to find the courage within ourselves to do more than be spectators in our world.
I don’t have to tell you that these are scary times. You know that already! But scary times require us to be brave, grounded and protected. If you are a practitioner of magic, it’s time to get really serious about it and use it to bring about positive transformation and change. We cannot afford to be amateurs and dabblers anymore. Mother Earth needs us to do what only we can do best!
The Full Sun aspect of the eclipse is the power needed to get stuff done. The Dark Moon may reveal to us the path, but the Full Sun kicks us in the behind and gives us the motivation to follow it. The Tarot Card of the Sun naturally comes to mind when I think of this energy. It represents the same thing that the elemental Spirit of Fire represents: Realizing our full creative potential, making bold and wise decisions, the freedom to be and express our true selves. It’s energy is one of wonder, lucidity, optimism and success. Perhaps this powerful aspect of the eclipse will make us bolder than we’ve ever been before. Perhaps it will metaphorically light a fire under us so that we set into motion that “thing” we’ve always known we were called to do.
When I first started writing this post, I thought I was going to create a ritual for you to go with this special day. However, I realized that my ritual for the Solar Eclipse cannot be your ritual. You have to claim this holy moment as your own. Listen to your Ancestors and the Divine. Seek their wisdom. Follow where your heart and intuition lead you. You WILL know what to do! Blessed be!
